“The name,
Aeolian has many meanings:
I am a geologist, and the
root of the geologic term eolian (which refers to sand dunes) is the
roman word Aeolian.
I grew up
in the desert, amongst tons of sand dunes (some of the best rocks in
the world are ancient sand dunes that have been preserved) Most
notably is White Sands National Monument
My first
dane is a real spitfire, very energetic and outgoing...spending any
amount of time trying to keep up with her often leaves me feeling
windblown (literally and figuratively)
Aeolus is
the Roman God of the North Wind (hence why the term eolian refers to
wind blown sand)...Great Danes are the Apollo of Dogs. Apollo is
the Greco-Roman God of healing, prophecy, the arts (especially music
and archery).
I consider
a well bred Dane a work of art, so the name is also a nod to the
origins of the breed it all of it's classic forms.
